Cookie Policy
Last updated: 17-08-2026
This page lists every cookie and every piece of browser storage the app uses, what each one is for, and how long it lasts. You control everything that is not strictly necessary on the Manage Privacy Preferences page. Read this alongside the Privacy Policy.
Cookies and the other things like them
A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser so it can recognise your browser next time. Browsers also offer other storage that works much the same way, and this app uses two of them: local storage, for small settings that have to be available before the page is drawn, and a browser database, for your offline learning data.
All three are covered here. Where this page says "cookies" it means all of them.
Strictly necessary
These make the app work. They cannot be switched off, and they do not need your consent, because without them you could not sign in or use what you have paid for.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| authjs.session-token (__Secure-authjs.session-token over https) | PLACEHOLDER: example.com | Keeps you signed in. Holds an encrypted token, not your password. | 30 days |
| authjs.csrf-token | PLACEHOLDER: example.com | Proves a sign-in or form submission came from you and not from another site. | Session |
| authjs.callback-url | PLACEHOLDER: example.com | Remembers where to send you back to after you sign in. | Session |
| cookieConsent (local storage) | PLACEHOLDER: example.com | Remembers this very choice: which categories you allowed, and when you decided. Without it we would have to ask you on every page. | Until you change or clear it |
Analytics
These would let us count visits and see which lessons people finish or abandon, so we can fix the ones that are not working. Nothing in this category is used to identify you.
Nothing is loaded today
The app currently loads no analytics product at all, so this category is empty in practice. It exists so that your choice is already recorded if one is added, and this table will list it before it goes live.
Preferences
These remember choices that are not needed to sign in, so the app looks and behaves the way you left it. Turn them off and the app still works; it just forgets your preferences between visits.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| theme (local storage) | PLACEHOLDER: example.com | Whether you chose light, dark, or to follow your device. Read before the page is drawn, so the app does not flash the wrong colours. | Until you change or clear it |
| palette (local storage) | PLACEHOLDER: example.com | Which colour palette you chose. | Until you change or clear it |
| sinhala_german_app (browser database) | PLACEHOLDER: example.com | Your learning data on this device: profile, progress, review schedule, saved words and settings, so the app works offline and before you sign in. If you use the AI conversation partner, this is also where your own API key stays. Nothing in here is sent to us except the learning data that syncs to your account when you are signed in, and the key never is. | Until you clear your browser data |
Advertising
Advertising cookies are set by Google to show ads, including ads chosen for your interests, and to measure them. They are set only if you allow this category. If you refuse, the advertising script is not loaded at all, so no advertising cookie is set.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| __gads, __gpi | Measures ads and limits how often you see the same one. | Up to 13 months | |
| IDE, DSID | Identifies your browser so ads can be chosen for your interests and measured across sites. | Up to 13 months | |
| _gcl_au | Measures whether an ad led to a sign-up. | 90 days |
Children's profiles
A children's profile is never shown advertising and is never asked to consent to it. Nothing in this table is set for one.
Pending review
PLACEHOLDER FOR LEGAL: confirm this cookie list against Google's published disclosure for the products actually enabled on the account, and confirm the durations, before publication.
How to control all of this
- Manage Privacy Preferences: turn each optional category on or off, or withdraw your consent entirely. It takes effect immediately, in this browser.
- Your browser: every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear site storage. Look for privacy or site settings. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will stop you being able to sign in.
- Your Google ad settings: at myadcentre.google.com you can control how Google personalises ads for you across every site, not just this one.
- Industry opt-out tools: youronlinechoices.eu in Europe, or optout.aboutads.info elsewhere.
Your choice is stored in the browser you make it in. If you use another browser or device, or clear your storage, we will ask again.
Changes and contact
We update this page whenever the cookies we use change, and we will not add a category or a third-party tag without listing it here first. The date at the top shows the current version.
Questions about any of this: PLACEHOLDER: privacy@example.com.
